Cameron Impact Scholarship

Cameron Impact Scholarship

The Cameron Impact Scholarship is one of several high-profile national scholarships that provides much-needed funding for outstanding students to attend college. Like other merit scholarships for college, the scholarship money does not need to be repaid. For this reason, scholarships like this are some of the most desirable sources of financial aid.

The Cameron Impact Scholarship, awarded by the Bryan Cameron Education Foundation, was established in 2015. Since then, it has helped many students fulfill their dreams of attending college.

In this article, we will discuss the Bryan Cameron Impact Scholarship and answer several questions about it including:

  • What are the eligibility requirements for the Cameron Impact Scholarship?
  • What are the Cameron Impact Scholarship requirements for submission?
  • What is the Cameron Impact Scholarship deadline for application?
  • How can I give myself the best chance to win this scholarship and other scholarships for college?
  • What are some tips for how to get a scholarship?

Before we talk about the Cameron Impact Scholarship requirements and Cameron Impact scholarship deadline, let’s take a step back. What is the Bryan Cameron Scholarship and who funds it?

What is the Bryan Cameron Scholarship?

It’s important to understand the history and values behind the Bryan Cameron Scholarship. First, the Cameron Impact Scholarship is one of the coveted few full tuition scholarships. These awards cover tuition and fees for all four years of school at the recipient’s college of choice.

It’s a merit-based scholarship, meaning it’s granted based on student achievement. To earn this scholarship, students need to show academic excellence, leadership qualities, and a commitment to using their education to better the world. The scholarship is also extremely selective, going to only 15 students out of an annual pool of 3,000 applicants. We’ll talk more about the selectivity and eligibility requirements of the scholarship later.

The Bryan Cameron Education Foundation

The Bryan Cameron Education Foundation is the organization behind the Cameron Impact Scholarship. The founder, Bryan Cameron, started the scholarship to provide funding for worthy high school students to follow their dreams and pursue higher education. The Bryan Cameron Foundation prides itself on helping students make a positive impact on their communities with their college education. This mission to drive impact is also why the award is called the Cameron Impact scholarship.

Another goal of the Bryan Cameron Foundation is removing barriers to accessing education and inspiring the next generation of community leaders. Their belief is that the best leaders are those who show integrity, strong work ethic, and dedication to the service of others. Students who win the scholarship become part of the foundation’s mission and join a network of other winners and supporters. Therefore, the benefits of winning this merit scholarship go beyond just the four years of covered tuition.

To date, 135 people have been awarded the Cameron Impact Scholarship. Many of these students are now putting their degree to work in their chosen field, with many more finishing degrees. The Bryan Cameron Foundation and Cameron Impact scholarship certainly prioritize community service in addition to academic excellence.

Is the Cameron Impact Scholarship a full ride scholarship?

Cameron Impact Scholarship

While Cameron Impact Scholarships are extremely lucrative merit scholarships, they are not technically full ride scholarships. Full ride scholarships cover all the expenses owed directly to the college, including tuition, fees, room, board, books, and other costs. The Cameron Impact Scholarship covers tuition, fees, and book costs, known as qualified educational expenses. However, it does not cover room and board, unlike full ride scholarships. That is to say, the Cameron Impact Scholarship is what’s known as a full tuition scholarship.

The amount of the award varies based on the cost of tuition at the school the recipient chooses to attend. Students can attend any four-year university in the country, public or private, and the Bryan Cameron Scholarship covers their tuition. The award is also renewable for all four years, provided that recipients meet academic eligibility requirements and are on track to graduate.

Full ride scholarships are incredibly rare; even without covering housing, the Cameron Impact Scholarship is extremely generous. To date, the Bryan Cameron Education Foundation continues to offer one of the highest paying and generous merit scholarships out there. It’s also somewhat unique in that it doesn’t require financial need to apply. Let’s learn more about the eligibility requirements.

Who is eligible to apply to the Cameron Impact Scholarship?

All students attending an accredited four-year college or university in the U.S. are able to apply for the Cameron Impact Scholarship. Applicants must be U.S. citizens, but the Bryan Cameron Scholarship doesn’t have requirements of financial need or background. Students must, however, be high school seniors graduating in the current year, planning to attend school in the fall immediately following their graduation. See the Bryan Cameron Education Foundation website for a full list of the eligibility requirements.

As the name suggests, one of the most important criteria for the Cameron Impact scholarship is positive impact on one’s community. This can be measured in many different ways, including starting your own business, or volunteering at a non-profit organization. Students who can demonstrate how their actions have positively affected the world will have the best chance of receiving this scholarship. Again, financial need does not factor into the decision of who will receive the Cameron Impact Scholarship.

When considering your eligibility, think about important people and communities in your life. Why are they important to you? From there, think about why you are important to them, and what kind of impact or change you have created in those spaces. Can you think of something? Try brainstorming or planning something on paper or in a word document to find a strong example for your application.

Can I apply if I take a gap year?

If you are planning to take a gap year after high school, you’re still eligible for the Cameron Impact Scholarship. However, you should wait to apply until you are in the middle of your gap year. In other words, don’t apply during the February of your senior year of high school, like most applicants. That way, you’ll meet the requirement that says you must attend school in the fall the year when you apply.

Students choose to take a gap year for many reasons, including getting work experience, volunteering in their community, or traveling to exotic destinations. All of these experiences could strengthen your application, especially if you spent your gap year making a difference in your community.

In your application, make sure to include any relevant work experience, extracurricular activities or volunteer work from your gap year. The best way to leverage your gap year for the Cameron Impact scholarship is to describe your growth. How did that year allow you to find ways to make a difference in your community?

Cameron Impact Scholarship Requirements

When researching how to get a scholarship, it is important to review all the requirements for the scholarship.

Online application and personal statement

The Cameron Impact Scholarship requirements include an online application, which has several components. This application includes information about extracurricular activities as well as a personal statement and a short answer question. Both of these writing prompts allow students to demonstrate evidence of their leadership skills. They also prompt applicants to explain how they will use the scholarship in service of others.

Letters of recommendation

In addition to the application and personal statement, students must also submit two letters of reference to the Bryan Cameron Education Foundation to be considered for the Bryan Cameron Scholarship. These letters of reference should come from adults who know you well and can speak to your character. At least one letter must be from a current teacher or school employee. The other can be anyone who has made a significant impact on your life.

There are a few ways to ensure your recommendation letters serve you well. For one, do not submit letters from parents or other family members. Information about how to ask for a college recommendation letter can be found here. The tips will apply just as well to reference letters for scholarships for college. Be sure to give your recommendation writers plenty of notice; these merit scholarships are extremely competitive, and extensions are not provided.

High school transcript

Finally, you must submit a high school transcript, which may be official or unofficial. This transcript must show that your GPA is above the minimum threshold of 3.7 to be considered for the Cameron Impact Scholarship. If you don’t submit a transcript, your application for the Bryan Cameron Impact Scholarship will be considered incomplete and won’t be considered.

Once you submit your materials, you must wait. If you make it to the next stage of the process, you’ll have an interview with a member of the selection committee. These interviews are usually done at the applicant’s high school. They’re an opportunity for the selection committee to discuss the applicant’s achievements and record while hearing about them in their own words.

Cameron Impact Scholarship: How to Apply

To apply for the Bryan Cameron Impact Scholarship, you must first complete the online application on the Cameron Foundation website. After you’ve uploaded your application, personal statement, and short answer question, you must acquire a copy of your high school transcript. Usually, your school’s counseling office can help with this; you can check out this article for more information about getting transcripts. Finally, you must upload or email your letters of recommendation; unlike some application portals, this one doesn’t allow recommenders to submit directly.

It’s vital to begin the application process as soon as possible to submit all materials ahead of the Cameron Impact Scholarship deadline. Although the posted deadline is in September, the Foundation highly recommends submitting your application by the Early Application deadline in May. This is because the committee only accepts a maximum of 3,000 total applications, and applications are considered on a rolling basis. Once they hit that 3,000 application limit, the submission window closes and no new applications may be submitted. For this scholarship, the early bird gets the worm.

Cameron Impact Scholarship Deadlines

The Cameron Impact Scholarship is one of the most competitive scholarships for college in the entire country. As we previously mentioned, the Foundation reviews 3,000 applications each year. Since the award was introduced in 2015, that number has been reached well before the final application deadline every year. Plus, only 15 awards are disbursed each year, meaning the Cameron Impact Scholarship has a sub-1% acceptance rate.

For all of these reasons, it is so important to review the Cameron Impact Scholarship deadline if you intend to apply. This will ensure that you have enough time to craft and revise a compelling application and secure strong recommendation letters. And revision is important — take the time to edit and refine your application. Editing is one of the most important tips for how to get a scholarship, whether it’s local, school-based, or national. To make time to edit your application, starting early is extremely beneficial.

As stated before, the Cameron Impact Scholarship committee reviews applications on a rolling basis. Because of this, earlier applicants have a better chance of being selected for a follow-up interview. Additionally, if you’re late on the uptake, you may not be able to submit an application at all. Last year’s early application deadline was May 21, 2025, and the 3,000 application cap was reached by the end of May. This demonstrates how important it is to check the website for the deadlines so you don’t miss out.

How hard is it to win a Bryan Cameron scholarship?

Cameron Impact Scholarship

Because the Cameron Impact Scholarship offers students such a large amount of financial aid, it’s a very difficult scholarship to win. Out of 3,000 applicants, only 15 receive the award each year, putting the chances of winning at less than 1%. However, this doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t apply, especially if you fit the profile of a Cameron Scholarship winner.

Winners of the Cameron Impact scholarship are high achieving high school students that excel both inside and outside the classroom. They boast strong grades in honors or AP courses, but also supplement that with robust extracurricular involvement and leadership roles. Finally, and perhaps most importantly, they have bettered their communities through service and leadership. Students who have demonstrably improved the lives of people around them or have created measurable change are good candidates.

Another way to help your application stand out is through your letters of recommendation. Choosing your recommenders carefully is extremely important because the committee takes their words into consideration when evaluating your character. Of course, you want to choose people who know you well. But more important, choose people who can speak to the specific impact you have made at your school or in your community. Your recommenders should be able to provide insights into who you are as a person and why you deserve to win this scholarship.

Winning with words

Another great way to make sure your application stands out from the crowd is through the essays and your interview. After all, completing a service project is important, but being able to describe the impact you made is even more critical. Remember that the selection committee has never met you and hasn’t seen the effects of your work. Therefore, your ability to communicate that to them through your writing is essential to reaching the interview stage.

Once you reach the interview stage, you have another opportunity to stand out by talking about your accomplishments face to face with a member of the selection committee. Make sure you practice for your interview and follow the guidelines in this webinar to set yourself up for success. Even if you feel like you’re a smooth talker with no worries about an interview, it’s worth practicing.

Certainly, the Cameron Impact Scholarship is extremely selective, but there are still awardees every year. Students who can demonstrate commitments to leadership and service have every chance of winning this prestigious award. If you feel like you fit the criteria for the Cameron Impact Scholarship, you should absolutely apply when you are eligible. Especially since there are no specific requirements for financial need or background, it couldn’t hurt to send in an application.

5 Tips for winning college scholarships

The question of how to get a scholarship is one that most college bound students wrestle with during their senior year. Students want to reduce necessary loans, and winning scholarships is one of the best ways to reduce the cost of college.  Below are some tips for winning scholarships that apply not just to the Cameron Impact Scholarship, but other scholarships as well.

5 College Scholarship Tips

Cameron Impact Scholarship

1. Plan ahead of deadlines

This is the most important tip for anyone applying to any scholarship, but especially for people applying to multiple merit scholarships. Every scholarship program has different application deadlines — some even have multiple submissions at different times — so tracking deadlines is important. Whether it’s a notebook, digital calendar, or phone app, record all your application deadlines and check them off as you submit applications. That way, you will not miss an important deadline and potentially lose out on the opportunity to win a scholarship.

2. Be specific in your examples

Most merit scholarship applications, including the Cameron Impact Scholarship, require students to provide a personal statement or list of their extracurricular activities. These materials help the selection committee get to know the student as a well-rounded person. However, many students present a broad range of activities without discussing the roles they played or things they accomplished within them. Highlight leadership roles and explain exactly what you did as a member of a club or employee in a workplace. Specificity helps the committee understand why you are deserving of a scholarship. Don’t be afraid to share your achievements!

3. Choose the right recommenders

Choosing who to write letters of recommendation can be difficult, but picking the right people will help strengthen your application. Avoid family members or teachers who haven’t had you in class for several years. Instead choose adults with whom you have developed recent, close relationships in academic or professional settings. You want somebody who knows who you are and, more importantly, knows what you are capable of when given the opportunity. Also, be sure to check scholarship websites for guidance on preferred writers of recommendation letters. The Cameron Impact Scholarship, for example, requires that one of the letters of recommendation come from a school staff member.

4. Tailor each application

Every merit scholarship has different eligibility and selection criteria; what works for one application may not work for all the others. Tailoring your application starts with doing research into the organization or school that is offering the merit scholarship you want. Look at the qualities that each organization values and make sure that you are showcasing those qualities in your application. The Cameron Impact Scholarship values leadership and community engagement, so putting those things into your application will attract the attention of the selection committee. Don’t just recycle the same personal statement for each application. Instead tweak it so that your application will be the most persuasive to the audience reading it.

5. Proofread and polish

Proofreading and polishing is important: spelling and grammar mistakes can distract the reader and make you less likely to be chosen. When scholarship essay readers see lots of mistakes, it implies a level of carelessness with your work. Can you succeed in college and doing justice to the organization if you cannot revise your writing? Taking the time to edit your application means that you are putting in the effort to show your best qualities. Consider showing your application to a parent, teacher, or college advisor so that they can also offer their feedback on your work. They may be able to see areas for improvement that you don’t notice.

Cameron Impact Scholarship – Takeaways

For students thinking about applying for the Bryan Cameron Impact scholarship, the process is long and takes a lot of work. However, the benefit of a possible tuition-free college education is certainly worth the effort it takes to apply. If you have a strong work ethic, high GPA, and a track record of leadership and community service, you could win this competitive scholarship. If you do receive the award, the benefits extend beyond four years of financial assistance.
